Last week one EF English class had its own competition, where it came down to find out who is the most skilled poet. After having dealt with the chances and risks of social media communication and Gary Turk’s famous “Look up”, it was on them to write versatile and catchy lines on how they see the social media bubble and its flaws. Take a look at some results!

On our phones 24/7
feels like heaven
but it‘s only an illusion
and leads to no conclusion.
When we want to talk
we don‘t walk
to see each other
and be next to one another.
We think it‘s our friends
but when we see them, it ends
it has no conclusion
we need a solution.
We need to go outside
to explore the world wide.
Don‘t be on your phone all night
and start to laugh bright.
To say it all in all
don‘t talk to a wall
communicate eye to eye
so you can see the lie.
So put away your phone
and start to live on your own.
I have 500 friends, yet I drown in the quite,
a thousand bright screens, the world a light
Of voices that echo, yet never speak quite
Of hearts being lonely, yet weak.
We talk without speaking,
we share without care,
posting our joy while the truth isn’t there.
A smile in a photo, a tear wiped away.
The streets once were alive,
with the sound of our laughter,
now there is silence
what are we after?
I miss the old mornings,
not waking to notifications,
I miss the cold nights,
when stories were told,
not scrolling,
hearts growing old.

The Take on Life
Back in the day, the court was packed
Today, the Wi-Fi is overloaded
Hello kids, the kiosk was stacked
The games now are only coded
Back in the day, we were playing in the forest
Today, all we do is scrolling
People were adventurous tourists
Our life – the bings are controlling
Views, likes and comments or son, daughter and wife
Do what makes you happy and appreciate your take on life
Watcha doin on social media? – Go quit!
What is life, if I don’t live it?

The phone is triggering an addiction,
watching until everything seems to be fiction.
But controlling this addiction, your emotions
will stop controlling the society.
Don’t leave out the fun, just walk a mile,
don’t leave out the diversity of your lifestyle.
Don’t be addicted and do live your life,
but not like it’s scripted.
With all your emotions and experiences,
you do your best,
for the time you have left.
For you and your fellow human beings.
